Excursions - Bus Trips & Travel
June 23-26, 2022 - Minneapolis Institute of Art
We visited Andreas Marks, Ph.D., the Mary Griggs Burke Curator of Japanese and Korean Art at the Minneapolis Institute of Arts and see the opening of Thomas Murray's exhibition called "Exhibition – Dressed By Nature." The exhibition featured Murray's collection of Ainu textiles which were recently donated to the MIA.
We started at the hotel, welcomed by our amazing Travel Chair, Judy.
Friday morning, we went to the Walker Art Museum and Sculpture Garden. In the afternoon we went to the Weisman Art Museum at the University of Minnesota
On Saturday, we had a tour led by Andreas Marks, always a generous curator with his time and knowledge. Thomas Murray came along to make things lively with his comments! In the afternoon we went to a lecture by Thomas Murray and toured the exhibition. What an excellent exhibition in every way! Each textile was showcased and lighted to seem like the feature of the exhibition! That night we had a farewell dinner at the Umbra restaurant at the Hilton and our last group Uber ride back to the hotel.

The Asian Arts Council organizes bus trips to other Southern California institutions and arranges travel opportunities to other venues featuring Asian art.
Past bus trips have included docent-guided visits to the USC Pacific Asia Museum, the Huntington Library Art Collections and Botanical Gardens, Long Beach State Japanese Gardens and Art Museum, the Getty Center, the Bowers Museum and Scripps College. Other bus trips have included exhibitions at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art and the Norton Simon Museum.
